Golf Day 2007
The Annual Golf Day was conducted at the prestigious Commonwealth Golf Club on Monday 16th April. The competition was played using the Ambrose method with teams of four players. The hospitality for the day was sponsored by Collingwood legend Des Tuddenham who ensured everyone received plenty of sustenance with regular visits from the drinks cart, manned by President Jack Collins and his ’54 team mate, Doug Reynolds.

Everyone received a prize due to the support from a number of sponsors – Drummond Golf (Doug Barwick), Spalding, Brosnan, P.G.F, Celebration Cellars (Darren Helman), Winenergy (Peter Goring), Palmerston Hotel (Peter Ginza) and Peter Williams.

The golf course was in excellent condition and the day was perfect for golf which resulted in low scoring. The winning team captained by AFL Games Record Holder Michael Tuck (426 games), and his mates from Bunyip returned an amazing net score of 55 7/8 after deducting a handicap of 7 1/8. They are now known as the Bunyip Bush Bandits! An investigation is being conducted into their bonafides and the result is in limbo until this is completed.

They were strongly challenged by Brian Beers’ team which included the Winenergy sponsorship representatives who returned a net score of 56 5/8 after deducting a handicap of 9 3/8 while third place was filled by hospitality sponsor Des Tuddenham, and son Paul, Michael Christian and Peter Williams (sponsor). Others to show excellent form were Geoff McGivern, Kevin Rose, Errol Hutcheson, Thorold Merrett and George Hams (Good Old Collingwood Forever!), Ralph Lane, Geoff Case, Stan Alves, Stuart Spencer and Brian Dixon (the grand old flag sagged like the present day team) whilst the Nag Award went to a team of legends from the Bombers: Barry Davis, Ken Fraser, David Shaw and Geoff (Sprunga) Leek. Bulldog Ron Stockman suffered from the yips and putting problems. The Longest Drive was won by Geoff Dodgshun whilst Kevin Rose was the Straightest Drive. Nearest The Pin was conducted on holes 7, 9 and 15 and won by Lou Milner, Peter Goring and Peter Dodgshun, all of whom were guests and edged out Stan Alves on the 7th and 9th holes and Michael Christian on the 15th by slender margins.

The day ended on a high note at the presentation of prizes, with plenty of banter and the group’s reaction, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Appreciation is extended to Commonwealth Golf Club for allowing us to play on this magnificent course and the facilities and hospitality extended to us.
